Many Glacier has some of the most BEAUTIFUL hikes in Glacier National Park. One that we had heard so much about was Iceberg Lake. Matthew, my brother in law, came to visit from Florida and was excited to experience Glacier for the first time. We tent camped in Many Glacier and let's just say I won't be doing that again in the fall. IT WAS FREEZING!
We woke up early with the sun, packed up our campsite, and made our way to the trail. Because Many Glacier is so popular for hiking, I was so thankful we didn't have to worry about a parking space since we camped there the night before.
The trail had gradual incline most of the way- but not too terrible.

The fog began to lift not too long into the hike and the sun reflecting off the rocks and mountains was absolutely stunning.

Even though the weather was cooler, I loved getting to hike this in the fall because the foliage was absolutely breathtaking.

As we got closer to the lake, the wind began to pick up so the jackets went back on! Close to the lake, there were evergreen trees that lined the trail and all the sudden the trail opened up to a beautiful aqua blue lake.
Normally the lake would be surrounded by mountain peaks, but there was an ominous fog over the lake which made for a really spooky fall scene.
The lake was true to it's name and had small icebergs throughout. We sat by the lake to eat our lunches and it was so windy it blew the bread right off Matthew's sandwich.

We left and started the journey back. The views were the same, just more beautiful sunlight and less fog on the way back. When we were about halfway back, a hiker passing by warned us about a bull moose just off the trail up ahead of us. We carefully proceeded forward and kept our eyes peeled, but were having difficulty seeing anything in the brush and trees. All the sudden I realized, I had been looking too low and what I thought was a tree trunk was actually the moose's leg!!! I couldn't believe how big he was. We slid by carefully and made our way safely back to our car. HIGHLY suggest this hike. Click here for more trail information.
